Clara F., Grade 4 student at St. John XXIII Catholic Elementary School in Unionville is featured in this Canada Learning Code video, which highlights the many ways that STEM and coding education is transforming lives.
In the video Clara speaks about learning to code at the age of 6 thanks to a coding workshop she participated in where students were taught how to use the Scratch programming language. Over the past three years Clara has developed her coding skills so that she can better communicate and deepen her relationship with her younger sister Ava, Grade 1 student at St. Matthew Catholic Elementary School. Ava has Rett syndrome and is non-verbal. Older sister Clara recognized that many video games are not accessible or fun for Ava, so she uses her coding skills to create and play accessible video games with her sister. Amazing!
